Bunnies, Prairie Dogs and Squirrels...Oh My!

Ah Colorado...the place of dreams, opportunity and small prairie wildlife abounding. We live in an apartment complex which I am sure can be seen from space, and there are apartments after apartments winding through the lush and marshy grasslands that bid home to many a creature. We once saw a Colorado bull snake named Gordy, crossing the path and admiring the weather. In my foiled attempts to catch a bunny for my very own, I've realized that maybe they don't like carrots that much...or maybe they are on to me. As you approach, they convince you that it is merely a rock you see, nothing more. Tis best to move onward and ignore this typical stone in nature. Ben and I once saw a bunny and squirrel exchanging judgmental glances. No question about their disdain for each other, but they tolerate their mixed living situation as best they can. Prairie dogs are the generals of the land. Standing in their aloof postures, ever watchful. How patriotically they display themselves with their puffed chests and restrain of emotion. It is almost a comfort to know they are only inches from the top of the earth, waiting for an ambush should one arise. The crickets are relentless. They covertly ignore your presence, pretending as though they don't see the gigantic shadow of your sneaker crashing down on their stiff little backs and right when you are about to crush them, they jump in legions to distract you from putting one foot in front of the other. It is well known that world domination remains in the forefront of every Gryllus rubens mind. Be watchful, be wary, be informed.
